“Leadership Through Seamanship” Youth Camp

“Leadership Through Seamanship” Youth Camp
After 5 days of intense training we ended the week with very tired but extremely satisfied participants. All six “Young Leaders” who were involved in the training week were highly motivated and eager to work hard to expand their capabilities. I, as the captain of the sailing vessel, am impressed with their willingness to work hard to learn the lessons and concepts of the program.
I hope to see some comments from the group from last week about the program “Leaders Through Seamanship” Youth Camp.

As one of the participants of said youth training I can highly recommend the whole program! I really enjoyed that week onboard the 49ft Juljia II, which provided more than enough space for the 6 participants, the coach, and Bob, our skipper. We were always given the opportunity to discuss travel plans and navigate on our own. After an obligatory introduction and explanation of sailing basics, Bob let us explore and learn by trial and error while making us feel safe all the time due to his subtle presence. We could always ask for Bob’s help or advice, and besides being a great skipper he often had a good story to tell. Although I already had some sailing experience, I learned a lot of advanced stuff in this week, ranging from maneuvering under motor at the port to perfect sail trimming.
The leadership part of the training was very interesting and definitely helped me with issues regarding myself and the way I want to lead.
Many leadership topics were embedded in sailing maneuvers, which was a good way to reflect the things we learned before.
Together with the marvelous landscape around Croatia’s islands, the sea and the sun, the constant action aboard led to a very intense and exhausting trip, but you are rewarded with great sunsets and a group you will always be able to rely on.
In conclusion, I’m so glad I came across this offer! It definitely changed me and my world.

Sailing with Bob and Janik and all the other participants was one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences in my life!

The landscape of the Croatian islands is just amazing. Anchoring in those beatiful lonely bays, enjoying the sunsets on deck and floating over the sea powered just by wind… It makes me long to be there again!
We even had some dolphin watching.

As Jakob mentioned, it was great to be able to make our own decisions as to where we wanted to go and how we wanted to get there. Bob even let us make mistakes (as long as it was safe).
All the leadership aspects we learned from Janik didn’t stay theory for long. We had to organize ourselves and as every day someone else was responsible for the boat, we also had to lead the others as a team and try out what we just learned.

I highly recommend the program Janik and Bob have put together to everybody who wants to escape the trouble of everydays live. Being in this completely different world for a week changed my way of thinking about live in many aspects!

I didn’t read the previous comments to prevent plagiarism. Nevertheless it might occur because I assume that I’m not the only one who is really impressed by the sailing week with Bob and Janik!

Of course there was the beautiful landscape, the sea, islands, goats and even dolphins, but there are many other ways to get this. The outstanding aspect of this trip was the process we, six young adults, could live through – together as a “crew” and everyone with his special personality.

The nature already mentioned and the boat, which forces a very high level of community living, provided the perfect circumstances. Bob, our captain really was one of the best teachers I ever had. He gave me the feeling of really trusting us with his Bavaria 49 while still always keeping the overview. With his patience and calmness he created a perfect ambiance for learning by doing. Even though my last sailing experience in the Adria many years ago left some frightening memories of severe weather, I always felt save this time and could enjoy the heel. 🙂

With his knowledge about leadership and personality training Janik put everything together. Some new thoughts keep staying and working in my head since then.

In the end I have to say that Janik and Bob worked together very well, complemented each other and so the week was a very well rounded program! Thank you a lot and to be continued!

While remembering the program I took part, I just can say that it is the perfect place to find yourself and
enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding you. The great thing about sailing is that you relax automatically by just being on the boat and expire the wide space around yourself.
While we were sailing through the islands of the Kornati, I felt save all time, but also free while doing manovers, and to make my own experince with the boat, and sailing stlyes, which is one of many other great characteristics of your captain Bob, thanks for that :).
Somehow this beautiful enviroment touched my soul, and combined with the great coaching I learned to overcome my personal fears and sorrows which caputured myself some time ago. Now feel much more alive and the presence is mine.
    Thanks for that Janik ;).
To put it in a nutshell: The trip was awesome and advisable, and I’ll go there again.
